How does cryotherapy work?

Forwarts works on the principle of cryotherapy, which means that the wart is frozen during treatment. The treatment of warts by freezing (cryotherapy) has been used by general practitioners and dermatologists for decades and has proven its effectiveness. It is a quick, easy and effective way to remove warts.

What happens when you freeze a wart?

Due to the freezing of the wart, tissue damage occurs to the infected cells (wart). This means that the infected cells stop growing and the development of the wart is stopped. The wart then dies and is removed by the immune system. The body will then replace the treated area with healthy skin.

Does my wart fall off the skin immediately?

No, it takes a while before the wart falls off the skin. That’s the way it is.
Your immune system has to clean up the wart and replace it with healthy skin. After the treatment, a blister may develop under the wart. It is important not to damage the blister. The blister must be allowed to dry, after which the blister falls off together with the wart. Normally it takes 10-14 days before the healthy skin develops.

What’s new about Forwarts?

Modern general practitioners and dermatologists have been using a direct freeze spray for the removal of warts for years. A direct freezing method works a lot more effectively, and is colder and easier to use than other outdated, indirect methods. Forwarts is the first consumer product that has made this effective treatment available for home use.

Our direct freezing technology ensures that the wart can be frozen faster, deeper and more efficiently. This is caused by the `wind-freeze effect’. Other, indirect self-care wart freezers freeze the skin via an intermediate part: for example, a foam applicator or metal pin.

How does the wind-chill effect work?

This effect works thanks to two events taking place at the same time:

welcome
  • Because your body temperature is around 37°C, there is always a layer of warm air around you. This layer can be blown away by moving air, causing your body to lose heat. You have probably noticed that when it’s windy outside, your body cools down faster. This is due to the heat being blown away around your skin.
  • This cooling effect can be enhanced when your skin is moist. If you stand in the wind with wet hair (e.g. after showering) or go for a bike ride, your skin cools down faster. You therefore face an increased risk of ‘catching cold’. This is because the moving air makes the moisture on your skin evaporate faster. Another practical example of the wind-chill effect you may recognise happens when you want to determine where the wind comes from. If you wet your finger and stick it up in the air, you will notice that your finger gets cold on the side where the wind comes from (the moisture on your finger evaporates there).
This combination of wind and cold is called the wind-chill effect. Its severity can be expressed by the wind chill temperature.

Forwarts and the wind-chill effect

Forwarts makes use of this wind-chill effect by spraying the cooling gas directly on to the wart. The flow of gas blows away the natural heat around the skin, and at the same time evaporates the cooling gas more quickly. This combination allows Forwarts to quickly and thoroughly freeze the wart to the core.

Why Forwarts?

Forwarts was developed by Pronova Laboratories (Pronova), a company specialising in the development and manufacturing of over-the-counter (OTC) medical devices. In 1997 Pronova launched the first OTC wart freezing device, named Wartner. This helped us to identify how warts can best be removed. All this experience comes together in this new product, Forwarts. That’s why Forwarts is the best treatment for warts at home.

Advantages of Forwarts

Direct freezing of the wart using Forwarts has the following advantages:

Forwarts freezes the wart very precisely. It sprays the cooling gas directly on to the skin and can protect the surrounding healthy skin from the cold by means of the nozzle and the protective patches provided. In this way, only the wart is affected. This precise freezing is possible because Forwarts uses an innovative and patented valve system. With this system, warts can be targeted and treated very precisely. This prevents cold liquid from leaking on to healthy skin.
Forwarts does not use an intermediate part, so the wart can be frozen much more effectively, faster and more deeply. How does Forwarts do this?
1. The constant jet of cooling gas ensures that the freezing takes place continuously and directly on the skin. As a result, no cold is lost through an intermediate part and the wart does is cooled more effectively.
2. The heat from the skin is constantly blown away, resulting in lower temperatures. This is due to the wind-chill effect.
Because Forwarts freezes much more effectively and deeply, more cells in and around the wart are damaged. The wart will then be quickly cleared by the immune system together with the virus.
Because of the direct freezing and wind-chill effect, Forwarts has a very short treatment time of only 10 seconds (15 seconds for verrucas). That’s more than twice as fast as any other home treatment!

Because the treatment time is halved, and because you only have to use Forwarts once in most cases, the discomfort is also a lot less. Forwarts is therefore very suitable for young and old

How to use Forwarts?

Forwarts is immediately ready for use as soon as you remove it from its packaging. No complicated preparations or instructions are required. Make sure you always test the application during first use by briefly spraying it into the air with the nozzle facing down. A small jet of freezing gas will come out of the nozzle, making a hissing sound.

Step 1: Place the nozzle over the wart. Make sure that the nozzle contacts the skin properly and stabilise your arm on a firm surface. If the wart is smaller than the nozzle, use a protective patch. Read more about this in the leaflet.
Step 2: Slowly press the aerosol button with your thumb.
Step 3: Spray the gas on to the wart for 10-15 seconds. See the table below

Treatment with Forwarts takes only 10 seconds for common warts and 15 seconds for verrucas (read more about different types of warts here). The wart usually falls off the skin after two weeks.

After the treatment:

– A blister may develop under the wart. Do not damage this blister! This can lead to infection. Let the blister/wart dry so that it can fall off the skin.
– Make sure you keep the wart and surrounding skin clean.
– Avoid, as much as possible, exposure of damaged skin to direct sunlight during the first 14 days after treatment.
